In Project Three, like project two, there were two subteams, modelling and computing. This time, I was on the computing team and we were tasked with writing a code that would sort out recyclable garbage and put them in the appropriate bins (metal, plastic...) As a member of the computing team, my teammate and I wrote a code and tested it using Quanser, python and our RaspberryPI. The code was made up of 4-5 different functions. Each one was crucial to the success of the code so whether it was the deposit container function, transfer container or the return home function, they all needed to work perfectly so that the code isn’t flawed. The modelling team needed to design a mechanism to move the hopper containing the containers up and down to “dump” the containers into the correct bins. For that, the used a linear actuator as well as a mechanism they designed using Autodesk Inventor and then 3D printed later on.
